How Catan scoring works

Catan is a race. The first player to reach 10 victory points on their own turn wins, and the game ends right there. Points come from what you've built and a few special cards, and they can move during the game when someone takes Longest Road or Largest Army from you.

How many points to win

The base game is played to 10. Cities & Knights raises it to 13. Seafarers, Traders & Barbarians and Explorers & Pirates set the target per scenario, often somewhere from 12 to 15, so check your scenario and change the number in the setup. The tracker shows who's leading and how far they are from the target.

Longest Road and Largest Army

Only one player can hold each, and they can change hands. Longest Road goes to the first player with a continuous road of at least 5 pieces, and moves when someone builds a longer one. Largest Army goes to the first player with 3 knights played, and moves when someone plays more. On the sheet, tap the holder's box. Tap someone else to move it.

Cities & Knights

Cities & Knights is played to 13 and changes where points come from. There are no development cards and no Largest Army. Instead you can earn metropolises, which make a city worth 4, Defender of Catan cards for holding off the barbarians, the merchant, and a few progress cards worth a point. Count a metropolis city under Cities as well, and the Metropolis row adds the extra 2.

Using this score tracker

Can I use it during the game, not just at the end?

Yes, that's the main idea. Leave the sheet open and update it as people build. The banner shows who's leading and how many points they still need.

What is the mistake offset for?

For anything the rows don't cover, or a correction. Add or take away points there. It can be positive or negative.

Are my scores saved?

Yes, in your browser's storage on this device. Close the tab and your game is still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to us.

Does it work for 5 and 6 players?

Yes. It supports two to six players. The 5 and 6 player extensions don't change scoring.
